Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer says his company will not lose money on the sale of its Zune digital media players this holiday shopping season, but admits it won't make much money either.
Ballmer said his company's upcoming Zune player fits into the hardware model because the value, if its successful, is all in the software. "It's in community [the ability to share music and pictures with other Zune users]," he said. "I want to squirt you a picture of my kids. You want to squirt me back a video of your vacation. That's a software experience."
...now think of this when you share your zune with the girl sitting next to you...:p

Why do we need a part 13?
Because the forum software has trouble with threads over 2000 posts, so ongoing threads get split into new parts around that point.

That is what people aren't understanding. They see something and imagine it being the same design despite function changing. If they do touchscreen, it won't be long (if not instant) before they redo how it sits on the table.
A design that allows the screen to go relatively flat and vertical is necessary. This design should have been done already 3 years ago.
Surely this new device will be wedged shaped like a large slice of cheese or indeed a very deep keyboard where the keys are the screen....
You would need to use or enhance your LCD to be viewable from a ~45 degree angle. Ideally tweek it so it worked well at an angle rather than square on.

Why would anyone think there would be an iPhone 5 announcement there?
They clearly say iOS and Mac OS. Which it should, Lion's release is right around the corner.

There's no way Apple will wait until stock is completely depleted at the discount outlets.
Completely depleted is too strong a word. But, waiting for existing inventories to be relatively low before a release makes sense.
Anyway, we shall see. I can't wait until the wait is over and I can move on to deciding which new model makes for the best investment.

Or (and here's a radical idea) why not put a small speaker on the player itself?
there is one.
but anyways, why would you use it when you could have her on a 2 foot ear bud leash?

and waste data? i dont know...how useful is this...really?
how hard is it to update via itunes? i just think we as a society are trying to come up with "innovative" and convenient things that are rather pointless.
others may find it useful, but why would one need to update on the go?

The only thing I don't like about my 12" PB is that the screen is not very bright. It's nearly unusable even in shade. Speakers could also use a boost. The MB screen is so nice! You new buyers have it so good. :)

Remember, it's still just a rumor.
I will be amazed if it is tomorrow and relieved if it is Tuesday 16th.

The "natural" way to move a car would be to push it, or maybe attach two horses at the front. The method that we use is quite unnatural. :D
I go back before the mouse... before there were touch screens. We ran and controlled programs by using the keyboard. If you had to move the curser... you used the tab and the arrow keys. One of the programs was a drawing and layout program for circuit board layout and design and schematic capture all rolled into one tool. It was called SUDS (stanford university drawing system). It had a very thick manual and well over 1000 commands to memorize if you were an expert user. I knew maybe 200 and knew where to look in the manual to find something more exotic if needed.
The mouse liberated us from that. Slide down menus full of commands made schematic capture, layout much easier.
IMHO touch is great for a cash register... great for small hand held devices like phones and iPods that are mobile and meant to be held in one hand. But to use a 27" iMac touch screen to me doesn't seem practical or as easy as using a mouse.

And yet, no new iPhone will be present ... I predict a lot of attending hearts will be broken!
WWDC has always been a software conference, the hardware you see on the 1st day are for the consumers (and fanboys), the remaining days are always software focused ... Thats why its from 6th-10th  ... don't get it twisted, not every developer desires the new releases of hardware at every wwdc.
Apple is at the core a software company.

Adobe flash... HA!
The wizards at Apple can't even make a mobile device that will run that load of crap. I hope that crap-ware never makes it into any IOS based products.
Doesn't most of the internet use flash?

I've been going thru these forums for about a year now. I find good posts and opinions but I hate these snide comments from people. Not everyone is as tech savvy as many who post here. I'm sick of scrolling past these guys that have nothing better to do than mock others.

Whats a guess on price for a fully loaded 23' Imac ?
Unless it contains features that are superior to the 20" iMac (i.e. faster processor, dual hard drives, more ram slots, better video card options), I'd hope for a 2099 release price (or a 100-dollar drop on all iMacs, and a 1999 price).
Didn't they do this last year too?
In september they had an event for the itunes phone, and nanos. then in october they had another event for the 5g ipod and the imac?
Yup - although that phone was crapper...

So I guess then if there are no new products, why does the screen on the MBP seem so much taller than the actual cpu. Look at the picture where it is turned sideways...
It may just be me, but I dont recall the MBP having an inch of screen hanging over the CPU.

how come you use such a retro keyboard? It looks noisey!
I am a fan of mechanical keyboards. They are clunky and loud, but allows me to type very fast. Also, I'll probably type the apple keyboard to death in less than a month because I tend to bang on the keys.
The model I have now is Happy Hacking Keyboard Lite for Mac. The touch is fairly good but it has an eccentric layout that makes is difficult for me to blind-touch the command key. I hope to get a Matias Tactile Pro 3 soon.

...they had to bring the store down worldwide?
Sometimes I wonder what Apple hires those smart people for, if it's just the morons running their daily business.
Have you ever been involved in the deployment of a multi-million dollar online store?
