OK, so their inital aim was implicitly to get in-the-face of smug Mac users. And then Apple "leans" on them, so they go all nicey-nice and 'decide' to a USB wifi card instead? Doesn't this seem slightly odd to anyone else?

There should be a law that states anytime a US company chooses to manufacture something outside the US, the company must post a clearly-articulated-less-than-25-page document stating AND COMPARING why the US is unable to manufacture said product.
Usually such a document could consist of one single sentence: "Somebody else does it for less money." Which is one of the key principles of a market economy or capitalism, competition based on price (for a given service or product).
I never understood why socialism is such a bad word in the U.S. but protectionism is not. Both -isms try to circumvent the market (as in market economy).
Disclaimer: I don't think the market is perfect, it very often is not. But you should first demonstrate clear market failure before overruling it.

I used to work at an apple store until Christmas and we were always the last to know things, we found out when the public found out eg the iMac launch, that's why they don't have the new stuff in stores the day it's announced, it stays in the back with someone who's signed a non disclosure agreement.

Core Duo Temp reports 60�C (=140�F = 333K) constantly. Even during the stress test when I heard the fans all the time, still exactly the same temperature. Maybe someone else is having this.

I can offer a reason as to why some Mac Pro models don't have BT or Airport Extreme, a great deal of the corporate market don't want their machines to be equipped with them.
The company I work for will not purchase any machine with Bluetooth as it represents a risk to our highly confidential data. We could not allow a security vulnerability in a Bluetooth stack to allow security to be compormised or indeed just a rogue employee using BT to transfer data to a cell phone or other device.
Same goes for WiFi, although for some reason we don't see that as being that high a threat (Hey I don't make the rules I just have to follow them!)
This could be why the top end model is sans Bluetooth and WiFi, to keep the Corporate market sweet.

Now I'm two updates behind on my iPhone, because I'm still waiting for the 4.3 Jailbreak. Oh well. Nothing too important in this update. I also won't be updating my iPad, because the jailbreak for 4.3 hasn't been released yet either.

I don't think that they're in any danger of that. This was a sneak peek. It was not a Beta Release, it is not a "features complete" release. Come January, if there aren't major improvements, then I think what you're suggesting could be discussed further. Until then, it's not fair to say that Leopard isn't going to be a success. We simply don't know enough about the final version to make any level of educated statement in that regard.
The only problem with that is from a business standpoint, Apple needed to come out and shine. In previous releases, Win XP was just a stagnant operating system, so OS X always looked light years ahead.
The deal now is that Apple is on a head to head collision course with Microsoft as to whose OS grabs the consumer. I just think Apple had a huge opportunity to get the Mac Community excited or would be Mac users excited and to completely outshine Vista, and they didn't reach nearly as high as they should have.
I have no question in my mind that Leopard will be amazing, it will have a number of great new features, it will be fast, etc... but Apple had tons of amazing products in the mid-1990s that were poorly executed and died before they ever got off the ground. These products died from a business end, not a technological end.

So, I start listening to Security Now, move on to TWiT, end up listening to MacBreak since it began and am now into the iLifeZone as well. After all that, I'm still waiting for my first Mac. Kind of like hanging around the barber's shop - eventually you come out with a haircut!
I decided some time ago that my first Mac would be a notebook, then started waiting for the C2D in the MacBook. Looks like my patience may finally have paid off!

After upgrade things are better and quieter. I always have my activity monitor running and it is always showing allot of CPU activity and my fans are/were always running on full blast. After the update CPU activity seems much lower. The fans, when they do come on, slowly and quietly spool up. And I don't have a temp monitor, but my lap said that it is running cooler. I don't know if I am crazy or not. Is anyone else noticing better processor performance? I say great fix Apple.
And in the update process Apple does say that even those that even those macbooks that were sent in for repairs (heat sink, MB, etc) need to do the update. My guess is that at the time you had your book repaired, Apple didn't know the real problem, so they threw in some logic boards and some heat sinks in the hope that would fix the issues. Just my thought.

I totally agree. Whenever I read news stories about Apple on Yahoo! Finance, I see comments that vilify Apple for being a "greedy corporation" that sent jobs to China. I'm getting sick and tired of those phony patriots who have the gall to call Apple a greedy corporation for manufacturing things in China to save money, even though those same people happily buy cheap goods without caring in the least if they're made in China or not.
Here's food for thought for all of them. Some of the best Android phones on market, like the HTC EVO 4G, is made in Taiwan. HTC is a Taiwanese company. Where's the vitriol for HTC? Where's the outpouring of patriotism, where they refuse to buy a product made in "repressive China?"

it's not all that expensive considering Apple has release three OS upgrades since XP came out at least. If you add those together it is more expensive than Vista. That's how you have to look at it

So, now we've reached today (or a few months from now, as the case may be), and Mac users who chose to upgrade each time will get up to Leopard for $129+$129=$258! And Windows users who want to try to keep up buy Vista for $399! But, then there are the Mac users who weren't that impressed with Tiger, so they waited for Leopard. They only pay $129!

Thanks Crap-Mart, one less reason to shop at your store! :)I agree, I hate Walmart with a passion. They are helping destroy the middle class everywhere they go. Apple does have a problem with the studios because they want to have their cake and eat it to. Im sure they are all looking into downloading movies themselves so they can avoid that 3rd party. Did I say Walmart sucks?:p

I'm sure the next major update (as major as 9.0 --> OS X) will have a new naming scheme. "Eleven" does not lend itself well to marketing unless Spinal Tap's your thing.

The C2D MBP was relieved of the whine and some other issues one they moved to C2D. If the MacBook becomes free of these issues as well with this move than the small update is still great news.
yeah i agree. having a bug-free notebook is a great improvement itself. i think i'm gonna order one soon.

Apple may have released Xcod 2.4. But it's only for those at the WWDC. I checked Apple's ADC website, and they have it listed, but it redirects you to http://connect.apple.com. I did some more digging, and they only have 2.3 on the site. They might upload it after the WWDC.

people may think this is bad, but actually it's a perfect plan make it the only consumer tablet that anyone sees anywhere and kids make up a huge chunk of what parents purchase. They'll be saying iPad and Apple before Dadda and Mamma
