Does anyone know if they resolved the issue of updates 'caching' on the App Store...i.e still showing the number of updates available badge even though they have been downloaded and installed???

I like the dictionary idea. But aren't we getting into the realm of the tablet/PDA now?

The big difference is extreme simplicity and loads of content on a central and popular place, iTunes. Its amazing to see the iPod gradually grow into a multifunctional device and the road it took to get there.

The next time she sends him out to buy pads, I'll bet she's more specific...

:D Everyone made fun of the name when it first came out, now everyone's tagging "pad" onto their wannabe.

    I REPEAT
NOTHING NEW IS ON THE BANNER AND THERE IS NOT A BANNER UNDERNEATH IT
everything that reveals a new product is covered up with a black curtian
you can even see them in the pic
they're at the tor left and middle right

You have no way of knowing that there is no new banner underneath. Typing it in caps doesn't make you any more of an insider than the rest of use using proper case.

Yeah, I was with him up until this line:
I think that music faded in importance for a while, and the iPod has helped to bring music back into people's lives in a really meaningful way. Music is so deep within all of us, but it's easy to go for a day or a week or a month or a year without really listening to music. And the iPod has changed that for tens of millions of people, and that makes me really happy, because I think music is good for the soul.

Umm, yeah, the iPod brought music back into the limelight. Thanks Steve Jobs, in the 90s I was worried music would go away forever, even though it's existed since the dawn of man.

Actually I understand Jobs' point. I think he was referring to people like me, Gen X-ers (with disposable income) currently in their 30s-40s who accumulated hundreds of CDs throughout college and early careerhood of the 80s and early 90s. Then life got busy with wife, kids, work, mortgage, etc, and throughout the late 90s I rarely ever listened to or purchased music because I could never pick which CD I felt like listening to, and even if I could there just wasn't time to veg around listening to a CD like I used to.

MP3s changed all that as I started ripping my CDs into my computer, and gradually rediscovered all my music in the background while I was doing other things...I just kept thinking "I wish someone would make a portable little thingy I could so I could take these songs wherever I want." I kept watching and bought the first such device I found in 1999, a $499 Creative Nomad Jukebox 6GB (later upgraded to 20GB before the iPod was ever born). I understood the power of 1000 songs in your pocket, and even bought primitive accessories for the Nomad so I could play it on boombox speakers outside, or take it in the car.

Being a lifelong Apple user, I knew I wanted an iPod when it was released but had to wait until it reached 30GB to eclipse my Nomad. I now have 12,000 songs in my iTunes spread over 4 iPods in the family, and the music is always everywhere...in the car, on the computer, in the living room, out by the pool, in the kitchen, while exercising...and I've bought more music in the last 3 years than at any other time in my life. Now I can hear my favorite Tony Orlando song from when I was 5 juxtaposed with a couple Journey tunes from high school, immediately followed by the new Beck CD, all while I make dinner or cut the lawn.

The iPod has helped to bring music back into my life in a really meaningful way.

How do you know that you are going to get a new one and not a refurbished one. And what old macbooks are you talking about, they didnt release any new ones yet. Thanks for the help. There is ZERO DIFFERENCE between a new Mac and a refurbished Mac - ZERO. You have nothing to fear buying a refurb any more than you have to fear buying a new one. Same warranty. Same quality. Different box. And sometimes when you buy a refurb, you get more than stock like two 1GB sticks of RAM and/or a bigger than stock HD for example.

The Beatles: Four guys who needed each other, because individually they were musical infants.
Musical infants? Someone's not very knowledgeable:
McCartney is the most successful songwriter in the history of popular music, according to Guinness World Records. McCartney is listed in Guinness World Records as the "most successful musician and composer in popular music history", with 60 gold discs and sales of 100 million singles in the UK.
John Lennon, ... with Paul McCartney, formed one of the most successful songwriting partnerships of the 20th century. As of Lennon's solo album sales in the United States exceed 14 million units, and as writer, co-writer or performer, he is responsible for 27 number one singles on the US Hot 100 chart.
Rolling Stone ranked him the fifth greatest singer of all time.
Whether you like them or not, claiming that they're musical infants is a brilliant display of your ignorance.
sorry...but her stuff is light years ahead of that old outdated sound.
    Who???

it is, i believe Myriad Pro Light. i think banners are usually Myriad Pro semibold.

I'll be honest; I was never aware there was a Myriad Pro-Light font, but I like it. I'm really glad this has been a hot topic in this thread because it's solved my burning question!

They don't even have most of these in the stores and want you to order online.

If you do that you better use digikey.

Radio Shack will be out of the RETAIL business within 3-5 years IMO.

    Nothing in there one needs.

Are you serious??? What about them there those walkie talkies???

This is a great Artlicle that really gets at the heart of Wal Mart's power, and although it's not about movies as such, it gives a hint as to how wal mart will aproach this....

No, not 100%. You can't possibly know, unless you've surveyed every CSX pirate there ever was. Case in point. You have a full time job, and in this inflating economy, it's not enough to support your family. So, you try to do a little work on the side - just to help pay the bills. Does this person have $1200 to spend on the software? No way. Would he like to? Of course, but his family comes first.

So you're saying this theoritical guy that doesn't already have a copy of the CS5 program he's talented in using wouldn't make enough money to pay for it but would make enough to support his family ?

Case in point, people who pirate the CS5 Master Suite probably don't ever use half the applications in it and probably don't have the required talent to even use it professionally. People who do either have their work pay for it or can afford themselves as freelancers.

No, again. not any goofball can learn Photoshop and Illustrator. You need to have a certain amount of talent in order to make sense of the tools your are working with. Also, each one can enhance the usability of the other over time with practice, and a lot of trial and error.

You agree with him. You're saying the same thing as he is, that without the talent and knowledge to make sense of the tool, all you're doing is clicking through the tools as the tutorials you've found dictate and not actually "designing" anything using them or even doing art at all.

IE, talentless hacks thinking that because they read through "Teach yourself Photoshop CS5 in 24 hours", they're now a graphics artist.

Sorry, that is utter crap. My best friend in grade school was raised completely without religion, and he is the nicest person in the world. Meanwhile, there are copious and abundant examples of self-centered, amoral, greedy bastards preaching jesus to the masses: if religion cannot help them, what value is it?

Your best friend may not have been raised by his parents with religion, but the society in which he was raised is influenced by Judeo-Christian values. Even atheists often display Judeo-Christian values because of the effect of society around them.

Don't misunderstand me. I'm not saying we need religion to raise children, but we better have a moral code of some kind to replace it with.

I would say this is probably not for books. We already have audiobooks after all and reading a book from a screen is not ideal. Where this really would be useful is for articles and blogs, in fact this could be linked up with Safari so that you could download the RSS feed of your favourite sites to read on the go. This would be a great feature and could be a free part of the iTMS (in need of a new name perhaps) like podcasts. Movies will be problematic because of battery life, they're going to deplete any battery very quickly compared to music and even more if with text. Would be a great feature and to keep at least one step ahead of the competition.
