iPad 2

You really expect them to squeeze a new iPad into the fall. If anything you will see another Air update.
Well it sounds like Apple wants to release all of their iOS devices (the iPad, iPod and iPhone) at the same time, a month or two before christmas, and a month or two after their new iOS release.
That way, they can make everything uniform.
A new iOS is shown every summer. Then a few months later, once developers are used to use, and all the bugs are fixed, a round of iOS devices built around the new OS debut, and people buy them up like crazy for the next several weeks to give as Christmas gifts.

It sure would suck if you need matching ID and company credentials to get your pass - like they do with CES.
From the FAQ:
You will be required to present your passport or other government-issued photo identification before being admitted to WWDC. Please make sure you bring your identification with you, as you will not be admitted without it.
and
Conference badges are not transferable. The full conference fee will be charged to replace a lost badge.
When you register you get an activation code. I think any other Dev can use it because I purchased mine with my MobileMe account and then activated it with my ADC account. Those accounts are not linked as far as I know.

sorry...but her stuff is light years ahead of that old outdated sound.
Haha, Kesha who?
Comment again when you are 18, if she is still around in 6 years:-)
Maybe the Beatles should have worn meat suits to please today's generation of ignorant , uneducated followers who like celebrities just for being famous.
Just look at the sales numbers every year (not only on itunes) if that is your only measuring stick.
Beatles win:-)

Wimax in Apple machines?
That's what I'm thinking. With Intel backing Clearwire and Apple and Intel are in love, I bet Apple will announce Wimax support on all new computers and devices. Ater all 2008 is the roll out for Wimax. Glad I own shares of Clearwire and Apple.

FWIW, 15C = 59F. I've never heard of a processor running that low. Maybe it does, but that sounds really really odd.
The Macbook is never cooler than its environment. So maybe outside in the winter. Just curious if you can use the keyboard while wearing gloves.

The edu price for 2gb is an additional 112, how far off consumer prices is that (I know a gig for my lappy will set me back 90 but I'm not up on prices for other people's memory).
Don't forget that 120GB HD. It is a moot point though, the HD is easily replaced in the MB.

Okay, by now you should realize that things between the PC world and the Mac world aren't so black and white now.
XP & 2k are much more crash proof than 9x, have become more user-friendly and have become a better value than the Mac in some ways.
The major issue right now betwen PCs and Macs isn't any of those however, it's raw speed.
With Intel approaching 3Ghz by November, the fastest Mac at 1.25Ghz (duals or not) is just not loking very speedy by comparison.
Granted, they're not THAT slow, but they're far from where they could be.
There was a time when the Mhz myth was valid, then CPUs started to hit Ghz, then twice that, now at 3Ghz.
If I'm shopping for a speedy computer right now, what looks fastest, a dual 1.25Ghz G4 or a single 3Ghz PIV?
Even Photoshop, long favored on the Mac platform is going to render faster on a top of the line PC.
Now, don't get me wrong, there are a lot of reasons to choose a Mac over a PC at the moment, but speed is not one of them.
My question to you is, whose fault is it that we have this problem?
Is it Apple's for not pushing Moto to make faster chips?
Is it Moto for not giving any intrest in making faster chips?
Is it Intel, for making consumers think that Mhz is a valid measure for performanance?
Could Apple have threatened Moto with moving over to IBM chips much earler to get them to crank out some killer chips, or does Moto not care too much about selling chips to Apple because they make more money in the embedded chip market?
Could Intel have resorted to a better marketing move than cranking up the Mhz every chance it got?
You decide.
Sticking the blame on someone and complaining about what should have been done isn't going to do much now, but in the future we can hopefully use this knowledge to make sure that this doesn't happen again.

Than what did get hacked?
The wireless card that was plugged into the macbook.
I know what youre saying, and they have made it clear, this isnt an attack on macs that allowed this hack. any machine is supposedly open to be 'hacked.'
Yeah, but their presentation was extremely poor. If it was to show that ANY system could be hacked, why choose a set up that is EXTREMELY improbable and unlikely? It weakens their case and encourages folks to dismiss them.

LOL! This is just a Hollywood studio's desperate wet dream.
They are realizing that 3D is turning into a fad instead of the money cow they were expecting. With a few exceptions the studios are losing a lot of money with 3D and now hope Apple will turn their turd into gold...
I agree

Putting aside the fact that Flash is crap....
On Macs. It's great on PCs. Isn't it ironic - Silverlight, MS's alternative to Flash, is better in Safari than Flash is.

I'm thrilled with the new gapless playback feature.
It's so nice to have all my Grateful Dead shows play seemlessly!
Kinda funny -- even before I had tried the new iTunes, I ordered the 8 gig Nano with the inscription:
the music
never stops
now it's truer than ever.

2.16 2gb 15" Macbook Pro; 4gb black Nano (now at the Apple hospital)

Firefight is great fun, especially Score Attack. I play the crap out of that. There was another playlist update today, tweaking Firefight, along with some other things. They have bumped regular Firefight up from 1 round to a full set, so that is nice. Also, Bungie mentioned in an update recently that they were going to probably down the road add in a "Firefight Classic" mode to Matchmaking. That would be like it was in ODST, where your team has a limited number of lives for the team. They also said they will probably be adding a Legendary difficulty option as well, so that will bump up the challenge quite a lot.
I played the updated firefight last night and it was 10 times better with the new tweaks. I love the fact that if you don't kill all of the covies with the allotted time, the game is over. I just need sniperfight and rocketfight to be moved into their own category.
If they add in a limited number of lives, then I will definitely have to change my play style.

Students pay either less (edu-discount-not just in the U.S.) for their Mac, buy a refurbished model or buy a used Mac from the previous owner. In the best case, this reduces the price of a previous generation Mac to one third or even to 25 percent of the original price.
And who says, students are rich? You, or what!? *lol*
No way, I never said student were rich. I was making the distinction between paying over $1000 for a Mac and not having the $350 needed for one of the suites. It really should be in their price considerations.
Or . . . they can always run the same software on a PC. ;)
i agree - as an independent myself I really have to justify outlays based on revenue potential. I no long can just write a purchase order and spend the corporate cash. OTOH, it has made me more aware of other tools beside the big guys that do what I need at a fraction of the cost.
Right. When you eat off of your gear you're always going to find ways to not spend SO MUCH on said gear so you can put more food in your mouth. Which is why I really don't have an issue claiming student-ship if I am able to. I personally don't do it with certain software titles, but I will do it with Apple hardware and others. AVID Media Composer is $2500 regular price give or take a few $100s. The EDU version is $295 . . . . . okay I am going to hop on that EDU bandwagon right now.
Just as the lenses you acquire in still/video photography will cost more than your body, software will be the major cost in building any rig.
Neither have I, but if the require a cash outlay plus a monthly fee then it'll be a non-starter for many small businesses or freelancers. If they really want their business (and maybe convert some people who use pirated versions) they'd make it a flat fee, pay as you go deal; with maybe a cheaper rate if you buy x months at a time. That would let people jump in and out of the products as they need them, get support from Adobe, and help them decide if they want to buy or continue to rent the software.
I wouldn't want to assume that Adobe is doing that way only because it sounds too nice. It'd be if you could just obtain the software via trial then rent the apps.
Just as with Apple and Thunderbolt . . . Adobe has left me with a few major questions.
OK, so we've established that you are a pirate, AND a hypocrite.
I used to pirate then stopped. A responsible businessman should and in some cases has to when they use their software and hardware for legitimate purposes. It's a major tax write off at least.
I was still in college when I was using CS1 and CS2. Either way, I eventually grew up and purchased the EDU version of the software with my own cash. And at that time by the way, hacked versions were far more unstable. You couldn't update them, you had to run patching scripts ever so often, plugins wouldn't work or would crash the system etc. It was just better to have the legit copy and keep it moving instead of spending time troubleshooting your scripts.
I don't know how it is now, but I know that it was that way up until CS3 based on the students at my job that still pirated software.
No, not 100%. You can't possibly know, unless you've surveyed every CSX pirate there ever was. Case in point. You have a full time job, and in this inflating economy, it's not enough to support your family. So, you try to do a little work on the side - just to help pay the bills. Does this person have $1200 to spend on the software? No way. Would he like to? Of course, but his family comes first.
I am sure said person (who doesn't work in the design field) would want to take up design and production as a part-time/tennis shoe money job to support their family yet doesn't have the money to get CS so they just steal it???????
This person wouldn't want to get a part-time job that doesn't need him to steal? Or he/she could just claim he's/she's a student/educator and pay for the EDU version . . . at the VERY LEAST.
No, again. not any goofball can learn Photoshop and Illustrator. You need to have a certain amount of talent in order to make sense of the tools your are working with. Also, each one can enhance the usability of the other over time with practice, and a lot of trial and error.
Read the comment thoroughly. ANYONE can learn the apps, any goofball like you stated yourself in the bold. I didn't put any time restraint on this goofball. But I did mention that it take far more to be a good designer.
So everyone who pirates qualifies for the EDU version? Is lying to get the EDU version better than pirating the full version?
Yes it is IMHO. Far better than just taking it. At least you are paying something for someone's work. Using your student ID at the movies, camera shop for film and agitator, Apple store, etc is far better than just stealing from them out right.
No hard feelings bro.

Agreed, at this price point, I can't see that there would be any market for FCE.
I honestly think that's the point. Apple had iMovie, FCE and FCP (within Studio suite) so I think Apple is going to sell the standalone, fully unlocked version of their software for dirt cheap and discount it for students.
FCE was just missing a few minor features from the pro version, a UI tweak here to adjust for those missing features, and that was about it. Now, they can sell FCPX stand alone for $299 and bundled with the rest of the UBER UPDATED SUITE APPS :D for $999 maybe.
