I just picked up my iBook a few weeks ago (seven days before they drop the price... bastards...) and I too am in a simular situation as you are. I am tech support at a small pc shop and after putting up with months and months of people calling me retarded I got my iBook anyway. I thought about the Powerbook but beat on my laptops too hard to get something with the aluminum...
But seriously, this platform rocks. I can use OS X with the best of them and before owning my book I had barely used them at all. So yeah... if i keep going its just gonna be pointless babble about how much the switch is a good thing and yeah. So im gonna draw the line here and stop! :P

Backstory - I ran the service department for a small regional computer chain in the mid 80s and Apple was our main brand. While I was there, I brought home this banner and poster and have dragged them along with me everywhere I've gone for 25 years.
Now I'm curious about them. I've searched eBay but don't see any similar for sale. Does anyone here recognize these? Any idea what they might be worth?
...thanks...
Poster - 22"x28" in aluminum frame with clear plastic cover.

Why are you all saying I use jpegs? They're all pngs...
Pngs or jpgs both gave me the same result as you are having in your blog. I resorted to gifs, and the problem was corrected.
i have to ask... what is with the drop shadow? huge, obvious drop shadows are NOT good unless you are animating 3d objects or doing motion graphics... the big drop shadow is running rampant around the web attacking sites left and right... i say we start here and rise against the drop shadow.
beyond that, like other users said, your tech side is fine. as for visuals, others have pointed out the color issues.
It's all about personal tastes and preferences. Mine are similar to yours obviously, I like a flatter look. I hacked on one of the stock themes for my own WordPress page (http://mnjordan.com/journal/), to give it a monochromatic, flat look consistent with the overall "theme" of my site.

I have one Xserve G5 in use here to run PresStore and I successfully upgraded the three drive modules to 2 TB with no issues.
The only thing to remember is simply that the Xserve is not SATA 2 and the controller seems to ignore the drives that are SATA 2.
Even weirder is the fact that some sleds seems to switchs the drives automatically to SATA-1 while others don't.
So, if like me, If you end up with drives that are not visible, follow the manufacturer's instructions to set them to SATA-1 Mode. It's either a jumper or you have to plug the drive in a PC and use a boot CD.
I used Hitachi Deskstar and they are great. Expensive, but great.

i have a bunch of audio wav files that i imported into garageband and then i made another track with midi drums.
there is a point in the song where the tempo drops 10 bpm, and then goes back to the original tempo.
doing the master tempo automation is fine, but the problem is that when i change that section of the midi track and drop it down, all the audio files shift with it.
i want the audio files to not shift and stay where they are on the timeline. I only want the midi track to change tempo.
is this possible?

There are many 40 pin ZIF to sata adapters out there... what's needed is actually a LIF adapter. According to other forums, this could do this job:

I'm ordering one today and will post results.

Hello there, (TL;DR at bottom)
I have a late 2008 model 13" Macbook, that I received as a present. I haven't upgraded it except by adding more RAM.
Currently it has: 4GB RAM, 2.1 GHz Dual Core Core 2, 120 GB HDD (the original one)
I am running Windows 7 off a bootcamp partition. I choose to run win7 because I don't like using OSX.
Recently, I've noticed slow downs in start up times, and on the few occasions I use OSX, I've had the rainbow beachball quite often. Therefore, I've decided to upgrade my HD.
I live in New Zealand, so the following prices in NZD, please think of the prices proportionally. (Say one HD is $100, and another is $200. Think of the first HD in USD, then just double that price for the price of the other HD in USD)
I can spend (at most) $350 NZD, but I want to base my decision of value, not of performance. These are my options:
- WD Scorpio Blue 500GB $102
- WD Scorpio Black 500GB $119
- Seagate Momentus XT 500GB $209
- OCZ Vertex 2 25nm 60GB $239
- Intel X25-M G2 80GB $288
- OCZ Vertex 2 34nm 90GB $339
I need help deciding on which HD. Most of the time I use the MB for web browsing. There is minimal storage required, as I mostly have word documents etc. Although, it would be nice to have extra storage, I most likely won't use it.
Another question I would like to ask regards to OS and using an SSD. I really like Windows 7 too much. Plus my PC runs Windows 7 and I like them to be compatible. However, If I get an SSD with low space, I'd probably have to use one OS only, and I could get used to OSX if I have to.
The problem is that OSX Leopard or SL does not support TRIM, so there's no way for me to clear out the junk in the SSD. Windows 7 supports this, but I'll have to install it using boot camp, and that would take up a considerable chunk of the SSD. I wonder if it is possible to install windows 7 on my MB without having to use Bootcamp? Is there a way to get the drivers required for the hardware on my MB, without bootcamp?
Also, I seem to have lost my installation disc for OSX that came with my MB. Is there a way for me to download a copy from Apple?
TLDR: I need a new HD for my MB. Is it possible for me to install Windows 7 on my MB without bootcamp? Is it possible to download a legit copy of OSX Leopard from Apple, since I lost the installation disc?
Thank you for reading my post. All helpful suggestions are welcome and appreciated. :)

I love me my partitions. But don't do it. Wait a year or so, see what partitions you'll need. You cannot just guess at these things-- Decide how many partitions, for what purpose, and most importantly, how big. Then partition if the mood strikes you. For now, tho, just have fun with OS X :)

BART is great! yes, strange/bizarre/disgusting things can happen, as discussed in the thread tech4all referred to, but i've found it to be reliable and safe (as long as you use common sense, as already pointed out). i used to use BART to commute every day to and from work, but my current job is not anywhere near a BART line so i really only use BART nowadays when i'm going into the city.
so, yes, don't bother renting a car and just use BART. enjoy your trip to the bay area! are you going to try to make it to the apple headquarters in cupertino? BART doesn't go that far south, so you'll need to find some connecting public transportation systems to get there...
marianne
Yes I plan/hope to go to Apple HQ. I plan to get a car for part of the trip but I can either go back to the airport or pick one up at the hotel. I travel to the bay area frequently for work. This is our second vacation to the area. We are mainly going to to San Fran to go to Chinatown and the Japanese Gardens. Then we are going down Pacific Coast Highway to Monterey. The wife is in a photography class so she hopes to get some nice pictures.
Thanks

No reason in particular, I'm just doing my firsts experiments in socket programming and I thought it could be useful if, for example, I want to connect two client to my server, one in the LAN and one outside. In the client application, I could set the server's ip programmatically and let the client in the LAN connect to the server through the public ip, but now I should think of two versions of the same client (or let the server's ip be set at runtime).

I haven't pre-ordered, but at this point do you think it will make any difference. I plan on heading to the Apple store at 6:00 am or so.
I reserved mine and I still plan on getting to the Apple store about 5-6am on Fri. :)

I just bought a used IMAC g5
Can re-installing the OS too many times on a imac g5 , add wear and tear to the HARDDRIVE?
also, when you erase and re-install your OS does it take from the amount of GIG space, versus just leaving it alone and deleteing all the files manually?
