Hello,
I am sure others might have noticed that 485 processing dates at NSC (for example) have literally crawled from the beginning of the year to now. Here are the processing dates (per USCIS status).

Thats roughly 9/10 days worth of 485 processing from mid-Jan to mid-Jun 2008. I wonder what the processing date looks like for the mid-July status update (which should probably be out tomorrow).

I am in 7th year of H1b now..last time my h1b was renewed dates were until April 2008. I went to india in Dec 2006 and came back in Jan 2007. My passport was expiring on Sept 29th 2007 so Immigration officer dated my I-94 until sept 29th 2007 and told me same thing that you can go to any port of entery or international airport and meet USCIS officer and extend your I-94 with your new passport. I waited until last moment and around sept 24th I went to USCIS officer on airport as well as on Port of Entry (called Deffered Inspection site). Both places got answer you need to file extention online because we only correct mistakes and this is not a mistake but it was case of passport expiration. I called my lawyer, my hr, my company lawyer. Everyone told me I cant work after 29th sept as my i-94 is expiring. Thats same as your H1 expiring. SO either leave country and comeback with new stamping or file new h1b. I ended up filing new H1b as i had only couple of days left before my I-94 would have expired. I have filed I-485 and ead and my I-140 is pending. My pd is Dec 2003. As per my lawyer I want be out of status as mY I-485 is pending but I will loose eligibility to work as I wont have any work authorization once my I-94 expires and dont have EAD approved on my hand. Agreed. In addition, you don't have sword of VISA status hanging on you every morning when yuo wake up.
I can not convince my self about one would not get job forever. Few of my friends struggled for jobs for about six to ten months but then they actually got good jobs and that is even in industrail engineering area with indian experience.
Yes, thats what I am saying, too. Some of our friends perhaps had to look for a job longer, but some are even with the same comp for years and years, just reg 9-5 IT job, one guy is Sys admin, the other is programmer. I know it sounds unbelievable but no one complains about workload, having to sacrifice qaulity time with their familes, paying too much in taxes or car insuarance or similar. Moreover, they can afford to have vacation twice a year and they all have families, purchuased real estate and the likes.
In fact, in my home-country, coming to the US on H1 visa and then getting EB green card is literary unheard off. Very very few souls came via that route and not all succedded in getting their GC
The way things are right now is that my husband is married to his job, BECAUSE of VISA status sword, working overtime, sometime 24/7, not having time for his family and rather unsatsfied with the quality of life.

more H1s is not only good for the employers, but also potentially for the economy. More taxes coming in, more pple putting money into the flow by buying things/cars etc. If they look at it more from economy perspective, this cud get approved/passed. Sorta kickstarting the financial situation.

Update:
The Doctor admitted his mistake.
He completely forgot to mark the TB test earlier.
He was ready to back date to avoid more inconveniance to me.
But I told him to be sincere in all aspects.
I basically forced him to give my wife a TB test again and also the x-ray.
Now the plan is to submit all this information with a nice letter which states that the doctor had forgotten things last time etc etc.
Hopefully they will mark the case as - resume processing.
If I were you, I would not have gone with the repeat of X-ray test unless it was absolutely necessary. X-ray are very harmful to the human cells and tissues. It was a ( Probably honest) mistake by the doctor who was going to give the correct report...and you forced him to take the x-ray again!! hmmmmm....I have nothing more to say.

No LUD Update (NSC) for the last 2 days after FP. But EAD card has been ordered. Its very difficult to predict how they operate.
Yep. I agree. For me and my wife, I saw LUDs the next day of finger printing. Don't know what this is. I don't know why the hell in the world they cannot post this information on their web site. Of course it can be confidential information, but they can create a system with very good authentication for that. May be they just don't want to share information?

From what i know, if you have an Indian Passport and a US Green card, the only countries you can travel to without any visitor/tourist visa requirements are India, USA, Canada, and Bahamas
Are there any other countries I can go to which don't require a Visa or will grant a visa on arrival?

I think switzerland does not reqire a visa (did not until few years ago). There are other Carribean countries such as Domincan Rep, Jamaica etc that don't require a visa, if you have a GC.

However I'm interested particularly in your state as you have the bete noire of H1Bs - the infamous legal immigration killer - Mr. Durbin as a Senator from your state. Anytime you guys plan a rally outside his office ( or thousand IV members meeting Mr. Durbin program), do count me in.
